Review: HSBC Credit Card Rewards Plus

As one of the world’s biggest banks, it is no surprise to see that HSBC offer an extensive credit card rewards program.  The HSBC Credit Card rewards scheme offers a wide range of benefits including the ability to redeem reward points for flights on any airline, anytime.

Choice of rewards cards

HSBC offers a choice of four cards linked to their credit card rewards program:

  • HSBC Classic Credit Card
  • HSBC Gold Credit Card
  • HSBC Platinum Credit Card
  • HSBC Premier Credit Card

How do you earn reward points?

Your credit card rewards points will be accrued depending on the money you spend on your rewards card.  You will earn:

  • 1 point per $1 spent on the card

How do you earn bonus points?

HSBC have a range of ‘bonus partners’ where you can earn additional Rewards Plus points.  These include Europcar, Interflora and Rendezvous Hotels.

Flights

You can redeem your HSBC Rewards points for flights on any airline at any time. You do not even have to convert your Rewards Plus points into frequent flyer miles.  You simply call HSBC Travel Plus and they can book your seat for any airline at any time.

You can also redeem your points for other travel related benefits including holidays, rail or coach travel and accommodation.

Gifts

There is a wide range of merchandise available through the HSBC Merchandise Plus catalogue.

You can redeem your Rewards Plus points for everything from a new iPod to wine, sporting goods, health and beauty, homeware or fragrances.

Cash back

You can use your Rewards Plus points to make repayments on your HSBC home loan or for an additional Online Savings Account deposit. You can also redeem your credit card rewards for a range of insurance and education rebates.  You can also use your Rewards Points to help others by making a donation to one of HSBC’s listed charities.

Gift cards/vouchers

You can redeem your rewards for gift cards and vouchers at a range of stores.  As well as popular high street retailers such as the Coles, David Jones and Myer you can redeem Rewards Plus points for vouchers at automotive outlets, clothing stores and sports retailers.

Experiences

You can redeem your Rewards Plus point on a range of HSBC Entertainment Rewards.   You can take the ride of your life at a theme park, redeem points for cinema vouchers, see the skies in a hot air balloon or even dive with sharks.

You can also use your rewards for entry passes to some of Australia’s favourite tourist attractions.

Other Benefits

For wine lovers, HSBC also offer their Vine Plus program.  Vine Plus offers you quality wines at special prices plus regular newsletters with special offers.  You can therefore benefit from fine wine by redeeming your Rewards Plus points.
